Rowan House, Buxton, Norfolk

Rowan House is a modern, purpose-built 88-bed independent Secure Hospital, offering both medium and low secure environments, for adults with learning or developmental disorders and challenging behaviour who are detained under the Mental Health Act.  It provides specialist services for individuals with a primary diagnosis of learning disability, personality disorder or autistic spectrum disorder / Asperger syndrome.

The Hospital, which opened in 2002, provides Medium Secure Services and Therapeutically Enhanced Secure Services for men.  It also provides Women’s Enhanced Secure Services in a gender-specific environment.  It is situated on a 17-acre campus near the village of Buxton, eight miles north of Norwich.

Patient accommodation is provided in six 8-bed bungalows and four houses plus a separate four-bed step-down house. Facilities on site include an extensive purpose-built Supported Learning Centre with 22 activity rooms, a large sports hall and a fully-equipped gymnasium, as well as a hard surface all-weather play area and a range of horticultural and recreational amenities within the attractively landscaped grounds.

The Hospital is registered with the Healthcare Commission and accepts adults aged 18 and over.
