Clinical programme

The building blocks of a happier, more positive future.

The most effective care and treatment for people with learning disabilities and mental health needs involves continual assessment and careful observation. Our care programmes focus on more than nurturing self-worth and minimising inappropriate behaviour. Every one of our patients and residents receives coaching in daily living skills, problem solving and coping strategies, enabling them to grow at their own pace and begin to enjoy a better quality of life.

The initial assessment

All of our referrals are carefully assessed by our care team, completely free of charge. Upon admission, we conduct a further detailed assessment, giving us an in-depth understanding of their needs and enabling us to develop a tailored care programme that fits their requirements exactly. Our treatment plans combine individual and group sessions, all underpinned by a Cognitive Behavioural Support Programme. This is a rewards-based programme and helps service users develop effective self-control and problem-solving strategies. Where appropriate, medication will form a part of the programme.

First weeks

The first few weeks of an individual’s stay with us are very important. Continual monitoring and observation will enable our team to see how that person is settling in, and will allow us to make any changes to their care programme, if required. Our assessment programme uses a Biopsychosocial Model that incorporates developmental, genetic, biochemical, organic, cognitive-behavioural, psychodynamic and social models, to give an even deeper understanding of the challenges the individual is facing.

On-going assessment

In addition to continual monitoring and on-going assessments, Care Principles schedule regular Formal External Review Meetings. These enable us to provide an update on the individual’s progress, and identify goals or change priorities, where appropriate.
