James House

James House is a caring, community-based step-down service for men with mental disorders, cognitive or social functioning problems or challenging behaviour. In this safe, supportive environment, our patients can enjoy a uniquely-tailored range of activities, building their confidence, their sense of self-worth and their ability to cope and relate to others.

Treatments and services include:

  • A free-of-charge pre-admission assessment
  • Tailored care and treatment programmes, delivered within a well-established, evidence-based psychological model
  • Individual and group treatments
  • A range of learning and leisure activities

Service users

Men aged 18 and upwards with:

  • A learning disability and/or other mental disorder
  • Impaired cognitive/social functioning plus challenging behaviour
  • A forensic history
  • Complex needs that are not being met in their current placement, for example lower-security units or community-based placements

Facilities include:

  • Individual en-suite bedrooms
  • Spacious communal areas
  • Large gardens, including a horticultural area
