Company history

Care Principles was founded in 1997 by a group of dedicated professionals with extensive experience in caring for people with learning disabilities and other mental health problems. Our ethos was built upon a shared belief that in the right environment and with the right type of care and support, everyone can benefit from a brighter future. More than a decade on, our aim remains the same:

To provide high-quality, comprehensive care, treatment and rehabilitation for anyone with learning disabilities or specialist mental health needs.

What has changed, however, is a broader range of services and wider geographic coverage. Care Principles now offer over 430 beds in 15 secure hospitals, community hospitals and care homes around the country. These units are staffed by a hand-picked team of over 1500 clinical and healthcare professionals, representing some of the best psychiatrists, psychologists, teaching and nursing staff in the UK.

Significantly, the parent companies of Care Principles and Ermine Care have recently completed a major restructure of their balance sheets in order to reconcile the financial obligations of Care Principles with its profitability.

The company’s vision and future is being led by a dedicated Board and Executive team.

Sean Sullivan - Chief Executive

Our individually-tailored treatment programmes are specially devised to bring out the best in each individual, while giving them the support and encouragement they need in order to develop new skills and behaviours. With an outcome-based focus and an excellent track record of rehabilitation and re-integration, it’s no wonder that Care Principles is one of the top choices for commissioners, clinicians, carers and supporters in the UK.
